    Meghalaya is a state in Northeast India. The population of Meghalaya as of 2016 is estimated to be 3,211,474. Meghalaya covers an area of approximately 22,430 square kilometers. It was earlier a part of Assam. The Principal languages spoken include Khasi, Pnar, Hajong, Tiwa (lalung), Rabha, Garo and Biate. Some of the cities are Shillong, B?jengdoba, Chaptuk, Cherapunjee, Cherapunji, Cherrapunjee, city.

    Why ‘Raining’ Meghalaya?

    The state is the wettest region of India. Cherrapunji receives the highest rainfall in India. The average rainfall received is 470 in in a year.  About 70% of the state is forested.  It is an agriculture based economy because of the climatic conditions. The Meghalaya subtropical forests eco region encompasses the state; its mountain forests are distinct from the lowland tropical forests to the north and south. The forests are notable for their biodiversity of mammals, birds, and plants.

  • Meghalaya too is now on the map of higher learning. Some of the Insitutes of higher learning in Meghalaya are the ICFAI University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Martin Luther Christian University, National Institute of Technology, North Eastern Hill University, University of Science and Technology, University of Technology and Management and William Carey University.
